Chapter 5: Research Design

After you have decided on your research topic and your research paradigm after a preliminary literature search, you should now outline your research design in order to conduct your research work. According to Vogt(1993), a research design is the 'science and art of planning procedures for conducting studies so as to get the most valid findings'. Understandably, having a good research design is very important at the beginning of your research project because it will give you proper guidance and focus on your research.

To set up a research design means you have to prepare a document called research proposal. This proposal will outline every aspect of your research , which shall include identification of a research problem , determine the purpose of research, development of a conceptual framework, defining research questions and hypotheses, identify the scope and limitations of the study, deciding on methodology, data analysis and determining the expected outcome. In short, it should form a backbone of your study.
