Never For You

"Gods, I hate you."
"I hate you so much it hurts."
Tears coursing down.
A choked laugh.
"You were always such a hypocrite. Wallowing in self-righteousness... I should've seen through you right away for what you really were. Just another stubborn, selfish monk! Then... Then why..."
Another sob.
"Why am I crying?"
He stood up suddenly and roared to the heavens.
"YOU CAN GO TO HELL FOR ALL I CARE!"
Silence. Then came an agonized whisper.
"Why did you have to die?"
The magic cudgel grew in his hands. His fists tightened around it. Orbs of molten gold flashed.
"I'll kill them. But not for you, no, never for you. I'll kill them because it's only right. I'll kill them in the name of justice. Not for you, never for you..."
As he flew off into the blue sky, he was still repeating it, obsessively, painfully, trying to drum it into his mind. He succeeded.
"Never for you..."
